The State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation within the Federal Department of Home Affairs is the federal government’s specialised agency for national and international matters concerning general and university education, research and space.


A network of science and technology outposts run by the SER, in close cooperation with the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA). The swissnexes are a key component of the Swiss strategic policy on the promotion of education, research and innovation set by the Federal Council.

Swiss National Science Foundation

The Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) is the main governmental research funding body in Switzerland. The SNF supports, as mandated by the Swiss Federal Government, all disciplines, from philosophy and biology to the nanosciences and medicine. .

Rectors’ Conference of the Swiss Universities (CRUS)

CRUS Represents the interests of the Swiss universities and is mandated by the Federal Government to manage the Swiss Governmental Grants for foreign students.

Swiss University Conference (SUC)

The SUC is the joint organization of the cantons and the Confederation for university politics.

Swiss Academy of Sciences (SCNAT)

SCNAT ensures the active exchange of opinion between science and society through information and promotional events on new areas of research and the support of regional projects.

Swiss Academies of Arts and Sciences

Are committed in particular to the fields of foresight and ethics and promote the dialogue between science and society.

Rector’s Conference of the Universities of Applied Sciences (KFH)

The KFH represents the interests of the universities of applied sciences when dealing with the Confederation, the cantons and other institutions in charge of education and research policy as well as the public in general.
