Swiss Tropical Institute (STI)
Supported by the Federal Government and the Canton of Basel-Stadt, the STI is mandated to contribute to the improvement of the health of populations internationally and nationally through excellence in research, services, and teaching and training.

Friedrich Miescher Institute (FMI)
Is part of the Novartis Research Foundation and has gained international recognition as a center of excellence in the fields of epigenetics, growth control and neurobiology.

Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI)
With its large experimental research facilities, the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) offers the international scientific community a unique combination of complementary methods for structural research and spectroscopy. The Institute and the users’ laboratory are known in particular for their work in the area of bio- and materials sciences, solid-state and physics research, as well as a major part of the country’s energy research.

Eawag – Aquatic research
This world-class institution in the area of water, lakes and rivers is oriented towards today’s technical, ecological and economic challenges.

EMPA conducts research in the area of innovative structural and functional materials and develops and evaluates products. Its programs in the fields of nanotechnology, adaptive materials systems, technosphere-atmosphere, human health, and materials for energy technologies are significant advancements in the organization’s transition from the former Federal Materials Testing Institute to today’s internationally recognized research institute.

Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research
Switzerland must make sustainable use of its landscape in order to alleviate the current environmental threats, such as urbanization, natural hazards and the globalization of markets. It is in precisely these areas where WSL can make a significant contribution. With targeted research into the environment and sustainability it provides support in decision-making processes and proposes viable solutions.
