Born and educated in Melbourne, Robert spent seven years in Switzerland, studying cell and molecular biology at the University of Lausanne. In 1993, he took up a Research Fellowship at Monash University in Melbourne. He is now a Principle Research Fellow of the NHMRC and a full Professor at Monash University in the Australian Centre for Blood Diseases at the Alfred Hospital Campus.

M.ErnstMatthias Ernst, PhD

As a PhD graduate from ETH Zurich, Matthias has been working in the field of cancer research in the USA, Switzerland and Australia. He is a group leader at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute for Medical Research in Melbourne, a Senior Research Fellow of the NHMRC and an Associate Professor at the University of Melbourne.

B.GigerBruno Giger – Treasurer

Bruno has a degree in Computer Science (Eidg. Dipl. Wirtschaftsinformatiker). With over 30 years IT Senior Management experience in the areas of project management, business analysis and process re-engineering within the European banking sector and leading global securities firms, he is now part-owner of several companies in the Australian IT market.

Jean-Guy SchneiderJean-Guy Schneider, PhD

Jean-Guy holds a PhD degree in Computer Science and Applied Mathematics from the University of Bern, Switzerland, and has more then 20 years experience in the Higher Education Sector in Australia. He has held a variety of leadership positions and is currently the Associate Dean (Education) of the Faculty of IT at Monash University.

Christian DoerigChristian Doerig, PhD

Christian obtained his PhD in molecular virology at the University of Lausanne, Switzerland.  He pioneered the study of phosphosignalling in the human malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum. He currently holds a Full Professor position at RMIT University, Adjunct Professor at Monash University and a Honorary position at the Burnet Institute in Melbourne.

The Board will be including delegates from the local SAAN Chapters soon.

During the scaling-phase, the SAAN Secretariat is supported by the Science and Technology Office of the Embassy of Switzerland in Canberra, headed by Tristan Piguet
